Talk by Federico Simionato - The Brave Potion's Service

His talk at #GWC16: “Superpowers, the Brave Potions’ service”

27th October

Superpowers, Brave Potions’ service offers an effective and innovative solution to a very real problem in the health field, in pediatric care. Right now, doctors and parents work hard to calm children down by giving them small gifts before or after treatment, or by trying to distract them or to camouflage the medical devices to make them less
“frightening”. Superpowers is different because it operates by psychologically reassuring the patient before treatment, making him or her perceive the magic of the medicine. This helps to build an experience that continues, even after the visit.

Federico will discuss the use of storytelling and gamification in the healthcare sector and how it can be used to reduce fear and pain perception during medical treatments. Often, children don’t understand medicine, and they don’t understand why they are undergoing these treatment, but they do understand magic. This is why the analogy of medicine/magic, through storytelling is used to explain their treatment to them. He will share the results of their work with pediatricians and children to let you see firsthand how gamification and storytelling can be useful in the healthcare sector.
